Utility Aid

Our Heritage

Utility Aid was originally founded by two students in Sheffield in 1998. They needed to analyse the energy consumption of a business, as part of a research programme and wondered where they would begin the process. As they walked out of their student digs, they passed a charity shop and called in to see if the manager would help and be part of the study. She agreed.

That simple step is how Utility Aid began and every day since we have been helping the charity and not-for-profit sector keep energy costs down, reclaiming overcharges, managing administration and advising on all energy-related matters. The company was formalised into a Limited Company in 2002 and has remained privately owned ever since. From its origin in student digs in 1998 with two “employees”, Utility Aid now has offices across the UK and employs over 70 personnel. Every single member of the team is passionate about the Third Sector and we go home every day knowing we have helped a charity, somewhere in the country. Nothing beats that feeling.
