The Skills for Care workforce strategy offers an essential step forward in recognising the importance and value of the workforce and the need to invest and reform the sector.
Responding to the publication of the Skills for Care Workforce Strategy for Adult Social Care in England, Dr Rhidian Hughes, Chief Executive of the Voluntary Organisations Disability Group (VODG), says:
‘The staffing challenges facing adult social care are not new, but successive decisions under the last government exacerbated the situation and led to significant pressures being placed on providers.
‘Social care workers make a hugely significant contribution to the lives of millions of people who draw on care services every day. The Skills for Care workforce strategy offers an essential step forward in recognising the importance and value of the workforce and the need to invest and reform the sector.
‘The King’s Speech was light on social care but where mentioned it was under the guise of employment, skills and the economic contribution social care makes. This workforce strategy offers the new government an important framework to address critical areas of social care delivery today and fundamental policy reform.’
