New Ministers Announced

The Cabinet and majority of the new Ministerial Team has been announced. We will keep this page updated as and when relevant appointments are made.

Following the election of a new Labour government, Ministerial positions are being announced.

You can find a list of the latest Ministerial appointments on the government website.

Key frontbench figures announced so far that VODG will be seeking to engage with are:

Department for Health and Social Care 

  • Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and his Ministerial team including Karin Smyth MP and Stephen Kinnock MP (portfolios to be confirmed)
  • Stephen Kinnock, Minister of State for Care also leading on primary care, disabilities and SEND.
  • Karin Smyth MP, Secondary Care Minister also leading on NHS Workforce, cyber security, finance and capital, land and estates.
  • Andrew Gwynne MP, Public Health Minister
  • Baroness Merron, Lords Spokesperson leading on mental health, patient safety, experience and voice, medtech, research, innovation and women's health. 

Department for Work and Pensions 

  • Liz Kendall MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
  • Sir Stephen Timms,  Minister of State for Social Security and Disability, including cross-government responsibility for disabled people. He also leads on housing, Universal Credit and other benefits, carers allowance and has oversight of the Disability Unit.

  • Emma Reynolds MP, DWP link into the Treasury and leads on pensions, and net zero.

  • Alison McGovern MP, Minister for Employment including poverty, skills, disability employment and addressing inactivity.

  • Baroness Sherlock, DWP Lords spokesperson and more broadly has ‘disadvantaged groups’ in her portfolio.

Department for Education

  • Bridget Phillipson MP as Secretary of State for Education
  • Anneliese Dodds MP, Minister for Women and Equalities. 

Other Relevant Ministers 

  • Angela Rayner MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
  • Lisa Nandy MP as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Secretary
