Demanding Government Transparency on Adult Social Care Funding

Access Social Care is holding an online roundtable on its legal case demanding government transparency on adult social care funding.

12 Jul 2024

Dear colleagues,

Many of you will already have heard that Access Social Care is running a legal case demanding government transparency on adult social care funding. ‘I feel completely ignored’: the human impact of respite care costs – Channel 4 News. We hope you can join us for a roundtable event to find out more about the case and what we have discovered so far through disclosures that have just been made public.

About the case

Civil society believes adult social care is underfunded by at least £8.4 Billion per year. Government asserts it is adequately funding social care but refuses to publish the maths. With such a gap between what civil society and Government say is needed, transparency and accountability is vital to determine adequacy of social care funding. Access Social Care have been making Freedom of Information requests to 3 government departments to understand how funding decisions are being made. The Information Commissioner has held it is in the public interest for Government to provide the information we have requested, but Treasury, DHSC and DLUHC have appealed to the Information Tribunal.
