As the gap continues to widen between the true costs of care and fee rates, VODG sets out a plan for engagement between our members and elected social care portfolio holders. 

Our asks of cabinet leads include:

  • Convening a meeting with third sector leaders to hear first-hand about delivery issues and ideas for co-produced solutions to the council’s challenges.
  • Developing a model for the co-design of services with people who draw on social care, the third sector and commissioners.
  • Co-producing with providers a local costing model that ensures the rates for 2024/25 and beyond will enable the council to commission the workforce well above minimum wage rates to effectively mitigate workforce competition from other sectors.
  • Encouraging transformative approaches to commissioning that maximise relationship-based partnerships and draw on the vision for how integrated care systems should work.
